BOYATT, RUPERT - age 82, of Maryville, died Wednesday, March 1, 2000. He was  the son of the late MARY E. WATTERS BOYATT and Dr. F.M. BOYATT. He was a  veteran of World War II and Korea.  He belonged to the Tennessee National  Guard and was inducted into the Army with the 191st Field Artillery after  Pearl Harbor. He landed at Utah Beach and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He  was a member of the gun crew that helped stop the German tanks that Hitler  had ordered to annihilate the Americans. He was recalled for the Korean War  and remained in the Army until he developed Multiple Sclerosis and was  medically retired. He fought all his medical problems with courage. His smile  was an encouragement for us all.

He was preceded in death by sisters, OPAL  BOYATT and FRANCES (Mrs. A.D.) PEACOCK and brothers, BERNARD and MASON.  Survivors include: wife, VERA ROSS BOYATT; daughter, MIKKI BOYATT; sons and  daughters-in-law, Col. MARK and NANCY BOYATT, MIKE and LINDA BOYATT;  grandchildren, CHRIS, BEN, JAMIE, TED, and TOM BOYATT; sister, BETTY (Mrs. Claude) BEST; brother and sister-in-law, GLENN and VERLIA BOYATT;  sister-in-law, AGNES (Mrs. GEORGE) ROSS; brother-in-law and sister-in-law,  BEN and FRANCES ROSS; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Funeral services  will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home Chapel with  Rev. ROBERT A. HAYES officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1 p.m.  Saturday, March 4, 2000 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment service with  full military honors. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Friday at  McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home, Maryville.
