The most hiked trail in Cades Cove is the Abrams
Falls Trail. To get
to it travel about 5 miles around the loop and take a right,
where a
sign will direct you straight to the trailhead. The hike to
the falls is 2.5 miles one
way.
This relatively easy hike follows Abrams Creek all the way to the 20 foot high water
falls. Although the falls is not that high, there is a lot of water coming over the top.
There is also a large pool at the foot of the falls where you can wade in the cold
mountain water.
BEWARE, like any stream in the park the water can be rapid and dangerous.
Swimming is not recommended anywhere in the park including Abrams Falls. To get back to
the parking lot you just back
track on the same trail you came in on. WARNING, in summer
and October this is a very very congested area with nearly 1000 people
a day making the
hike.
If you really want to be in the wilderness and see wildlife, go on Cooper Road
trail, not Abrams Falls Trail.
