Pencil Sketches by Ruth Andrews |
| 400 Indiana Ave.-Residence of Dr. Robert D. Proffitt |
|
The home was built by A.G. Howe and purchased in 1886 by Dr. Samuel Tyndale Wilson. He resided there during his tenure as President of Maryville College. It is a large two story, 5 bay, asymmetrical dwelling. On the main facade is a 2-story gable roof with a central projecting bay and a one-story porch with Tuscan columns, a railing with diagonal lattice and a roof balustrade with square post and latticework. The windows are the original 2/2 sashes and at the roofline are small gable dormers. Dr. Robert Proffitt purchased the home, situated on a 1.7-acre lot, in 1974. |
