Canoeing is one of the most accessible paddle sports. It is a great activity for people of all ages. Canoes are also great for cruising the lake, looking for the perfect fishing hole or taking extended day trips on larger lakes and rivers.

It is also a very versatile activity-from canoe camping to whitewater canoeing. Canoes come in many different sizes and shapes to meet different needs. Regardless of the type of canoeing you plan to do, you will need some instruction prior to your departure. We go over the basics of canoeing with all new individuals or groups before they start their trip.

Our Canoe Season

Starting in May of each year and running through the end of October we are open for your enjoyment 24 hours a day, seven days a week!

Canoes

Our Canoes are durable and as safe as those doing the paddling They seat one or two persons. You will be briefed upon your departure about safety on the Little River, and some canoeing do's and don'ts. Safety is our primary concern but accidents do happen and can generally be attributed to the people manning the canoes. Please be wise and your trip will be an enjoyable one! We want you to return because of the fun you had on the river.

Paddling Tips
The forward stroke is one of the most exhaustively analyzed and debated moves in canoeing. Instructors and Olympic flatwater coaches have heated arguments over its finer points... more.

The Trip Down the Little River

From the point of departure to River John's down the river is approximately 6 1/2 miles. For those who are set on paddling straight through the trip, you can make it in 3 to 3 and 1/2 hours. Most people take a little longer and enjoy stopping from time to time along the river. There are rope swings over the river in some places but we caution you to beware and if you do use the swings you will be doing so at your own risk. Taking a snack or lunch and stopping to eat on the river bank is enjoyed by some, so again, whatever your pleasure... just be careful.

The River

The major portion of the river you will be traveling is calm and serene. Then we have the occasional places in the river where small rapids can be quite thrilling. If you are looking for rapids which are dangerous in nature then this is not the canoe trip for you. Just about anyone of any age can make this trip and have a great time doing so. We cater to those who's pace on the river is a little slower and want to enjoy the river, it's banks covered with flora and fauna, turtles, birds and the occasional glimpse of other wildlife.
